Dawn Ritch – PRESIDENT
Many of you know who I am already but for those who aren’t familiar with me my name is Dawn Ritch, I have a passion for singing and the joy it brings to both singers and audiences and I am thrilled to have been elected as your new SABS President. I retired and moved to Spain from England five years ago where I live in Cabo Roig on the Orihuela Costa, Alicante. I love the way of life here in Spain.
I have been singing Barbershop since 1996 so I have lots of barbershop experience and during that time I have competed in many conventions, both in chorus and quartet. I have been directing Pilarmonics chorus for three years since it began and am thrilled to have achieved the success of 2 SABS Gold Medals, in our first 2 contests, with this fantastic, supportive group of ladies.
My background is in banking & finance having retired whilst I was at the top of my career. I have excellent organisational and people skills and have built relationships, coached, trained and motivated people all through my working life. All of which means that I am comfortable speaking to large groups, I can confidently communicate with others at all levels, delegate, plan events and have the skills to solve any problems I might face in this role.
I look forward to visiting and meeting you all this year and serving as your President.

Mike Phillips – TREASURER
My wife Anne and I moved to Spain in June 2005 and she joined Spangles in time for us to attend the 1st SABS Convention in Torrevieja 2009, followed by Madrid 2010 and every year up to 2017. We also attended the Pan Pacific Convention in Brisbane 2011 and IABS 2016. Although not a singer, I supported Spangles and SABS with photography and video and as a Smithwood Productions video camera team member 2012 and official SABS photographer in 2013. Anne’s only previous experience was a choir when we lived in Naples, Italy from 1992 – 5 but En Armonia gave us such joy over many years that, when she died in October 2019 I knew I had to stay in touch with friends in the SABS community. I am grateful to Pilarmonics for their encouragement and support.
Since 2007 I have been a member of the Sailing Association Mar Menor and served in different roles on their Committee, including getting them registered as a Spanish Association with the Comunidad de Murcia and as Commodore 2011 – 2 when I had oversight and approval of their budget and financial accounts and was a bank signatory. In March 2020 I was elected as Vice Commodore and have particular interest in exploring how our website and communications can be improved and linked to local Spanish groups with mutual interest.
My full career was in the Royal Navy as an aircraft engineer and, as a Commander, I served on international military/industry committees as Chairman and Secretary. While serving in NATO Naples my secondary, “community” jobs were President of the International School and Treasurer of the British Forces Shop. On retirement I was a Senior Project Manager for aircraft research and development and then Director Air Equipment with sales and marketing budget and targets. I have 5 children and 11 grandchildren, ranging from 4 to 25 years, in England and Queensland, Australia so spend a lot of time on WhatsApp. Or Zoom tomorrow?
I understand that I am joining the Board at a difficult time, during the Corona virus global restrictions, when there are a lot of unknown factors, but we must be positive and see this as an opportunity to keep En Armonia alive in Spain.
Donna Walsh – MARKETING
Donna moved to Spain in 2008 with her husband Andy and then 5 year old son Charlie. They set up a golf business with another couple in 2009 selling discounted green fees and golf holidays and now their company is one of the largest producers of green fees in Southern Spain and they also have 2 retail golf shops.
Although Donna has always loved singing she thought that she wasn’t very good at it, that is until she attended a SHIAD day at Spangles in November 2013. Her love of singing and barbershop started that day. After 3 great years with Spangles Donna now sings with Pilarmonics and also in a newly formed quartet Outrageous Fourtune.
Donna threw herself into SABS following her first convention in Calpe in 2014 and was MC for the Fun Show in both 2015 & 2016, Scratch Quartet MC in 2016 and National Quartet Contest MC at the most recent convention in 2017. She is very much looking forward to being more involved with SABS in the future and is delighted to have been voted on to the SABS Board as Marketing Secretary.

Bruce Mac Nally – CONVENTION MANAGER
After many years travelling all over the world on business, I finally hung up my suitcase. A new neighbour asked me to go to the village choir rehearsal which is where I found that I really could sing. When I heard barbershop being sung on the radio one day, I made enquiries and found a local group called ‘Fine City Chorus’ in nearby Norwich. That was in 1988 and, since then, I have also sung in an octet and two quartets. There I met Bren, my wife, who was singing with the Norwich Harmony ladies chorus.
When we retired to Spain, there was no local barbershop singing so we formed Tropical Tones in Almuñecar. Bren became the Musical Director and I was President. We enjoyed ten successful years there, including organising three full shows in the Casa de la Cultura theatres in Almuñecar and Nerja. The chorus contributed over 4000 euros to charity. We were among the first members of SABS. I now have a small village chorus ‘Acapella Alpujarra’ and I also administer Bren‘s ladies’ chorus ‘Songbirds’.
Currently I am Southern Vocal for SABS and have previously helped manage the Convention Courier Team. In 2017, I became the Convention Manager. Twenty eight wonderful years as a Barbershopper!

Pablo Lorenzo – CENTRE & WEST SPAIN VOCAL
Born in Valladolid, I now live in Madrid and have a career in computers. I started in music in a village choir and there began my taste for choral music. From there I went to large participatory choirs and finally to the UPM, where I currently sing. One day in 2011 I went to a concert in Madrid where I saw a quartet called Crossroads and there I realised that the barbershop style was the kind of music I had been looking for. At that concert I met the Barberidad Chorus and soon after I joined the group as a baritone. Since then I have gone on to perform various administrative tasks and I am currently the SABS representative for the central west zone of Spain.
