June saw the first-ever gathering of members of the Spanish Association of Barbershop Singers (SABS) in Spain. Choruses and quartets came together in La Mata from all parts of the country to enjoy a weekend of coaching and singing, culminating in their spectacular ‘En ArmonÃa’ show at the Teatro Municipal in Torrevieja.
SABS Treasurer, Tony Colgrave, was delighted to hand over a cheque to MABS Murcia/Mar Menor Group Co-ordinator, Lyn Baines, for €700 recently. “The SABS Board decided to support MABS because of the splendid work that they do for people diagnosed with cancer and their families.†Tony remarked. “This donation is part of the proceeds of our ‘En ArmonÃa’ show; we enjoy entertaining the public, but we also believe in giving something back to the community.â€
MABS President, Jacqueline Philips MBE, said “This is a wonderful gesture by barbershoppers who work hard to perfect their art and entertain their public, as well as raising money for local charities. We hope that other entertainment groups will follow their generous example and support all MABS branches up and down the Costasâ€.
The next SABS ‘En ArmonÃa’ will be held in Madrid at the end of February 2010. If you are interested in singing with a barbershop chorus or would like more details about ‘En Armonia’, then please check our website.
MABS Murcia/Mar Menor helps all people in this area who are affected by cancer, providing drivers, translators, information leaflets, equipment, a listening ear, or a shoulder to lean on.
